<p>From the desk of Arlene Floyd: Letters of support are needed</p><p>Dear Collegaue:</p><div>We officially received some devastating news about College Tech Prep (please see e-mail below). <u>As of July 1, 2011, the Mahoning Area Consortium Tech Prep will no longer exist</u>. <u> Our federal funds which covers the operations of the office including the salaries for the staff (Grimilda and Carmella) will be eliminated. </u> What does this mean for the students in Mahoning County? We have to clarify and reassure you that the College Tech Prep programs at Choffin Career and Technical Center will still exist. <u>The services that is provided to the sites, teachers, and students will be drastically reduced for I will be the only one left to to do the work of three people.</u> <u>While College Tech Prep was our main focus, we also coordinate the following: associate degree programs at YSU, 21st Century Community Learning Center (after-school program) at Youngstown Chaney and East High Schools, Northeast Ohio Robotics Education Program, Penguin Regatta, GeekFest, and the STARS (Student Achieving in Research and Scholarship).</u></div><div> </div><div>But there is still hope! <u>We are meeting with the Office of the Provost on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 and we need your help!! if you believe that we have made a positive impact on the students, schools, and the community, please write a letter of support to that affect and address to: Dr. Ikram Khawaja, Provost, Youngstown State University, One University Plaza, Youngstown, OH 44555 or e-mail him at: ikhawaja@ysu.edu.</u></div><div> </div><div>Please forward this to anyone that I may have missed. I don't have access to my full e-mail directory at this time. <u>the more support we get the better the chance the University will see that our services are needed.</u> Thank you and have a good Easter if you celebrate!</div><div> </div><div>Sincerely,</div><div>Arlene Floyd</div><p><hr /></p><div>On 4/20/11 10:54 AM, Timlin, Raymond wrote:</div><blockquote><div><div>To Ohio College Tech Prep Directors:</div><div> </div><div>On Friday, April 15, 2011 President Obama signed a budget agreement that cuts $140.2 million from the Perkins Grant, including completely eliminating targeted funding for Tech Prep.
